Notes for Press Release Indiana State law requires that children attain their 5th birthday on or before August 1 to enter kindergarten. It does, however, allow school districts to offer early entrance into kindergarten for children who narrowly miss the August 1st date. The New Albany Floyd County School Corporation will consider early entrance applications using the following process: 1. Early Entry Assessments are limited to children whose birthdays are between the August 1 cutoff and October 1. Assessments will not be given to children whose birthday falls after October 1, 2016. 2. Parents should call the child's home school before May 6, 2016 if they desire early entrance for their child. An appointment will be made for the initial screening at the home school. 3. The kindergarten teacher will conduct the preliminary screening while the principal assists parents in completing a survey that contains questions concerning their child. 4. To have their child considered, parents must attend a mandatory informational meeting. The date for this meeting is Thursday, May 26, 2016 7:00 p.m., at the Administrative Services Center, 2813 Grant Line Road. 5. Parents should call Nancy Ladd at the Administration Building (542-2142) to register for the parent meeting. 6. Appointments for early entry assessments will be scheduled at the conclusion of the parent meeting. The assessments will be conducted in June. 7. After the assessment team's consideration of the initial screening, the developmental screening, and the parent survey, the parent will be notified of the decision. 8. All decisions are final--the only assessments conducted in the fall will be for those children who have moved into the district and whose parents request developmental screening on or before July 20th. hspaxlp
